I've been coming here ever since I was a little kid, and have always been impressed by Boone's. I went a couple weeks back with my boyfriend. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer - and we were not disappointed. You get about eight stuffed mushrooms and four large slices of garlic bread. The "first courses" were hearty and filling - my caesar salad had the perfect ratio of lettuce, dressing, croutons, and cheese. My boyfriends beef noodle soup could have been a meal in itself! I had ordered the crab legs, and was given a generous portion. My boyfriend had the 12 oz. prime rib and shrimp. Both were delicious! We both ate our whole meals. No room for dessert though. Overall, a really great experience. Great service, great food, not too crowded. Can't wait to come back again.

Tried to sit on the huge deck on a beautiful Sunday afternoon ... 2pm, 77 degrees, sunny. The deck doesn't open until 4 pm. What sense does that make? We're now at Maddy's having a nice lunch outside.

Poor quality food and poor attention to detail given the prices being charged. I asked questions about the food and was told that much of it (if not all of it) is from Gordon's food service - the same type of food I ate in grade school and high school. So I ordered the burger, thinking to myself "how can a burger get screwed up". The medium burger I ordered came to me well-done in most parts and slightly raw in others. The ketchup bottle had dirt on it and the mustard bottle looked just as questionable. The lettuce was wilted, the pickle seemed old (and/or dry) and the bun was allegedly toasted ... On one side ... The best part of the burger was the red onion (though the menu didn't say it was red onion), just as soon as I peeled away to sad-looking outer and inner layers. The fries that came with it were unseasoned and either undercooked or barely cooked. Best of all, I had a nice view of the dumpster and overflowing trash. The rest of the decor seemed dirty, the napkins were either new or worn. I will never be returning.

Love it love it love it. Ok, we live in Colorado and go there once a year while visiting family. The rest of the year, we crave the piña colada. Simply because it's the best in the world. Why? They put ice cream in it!!!!!! Ok I am done. Food? Good but pricey. Prime rib is a classic but most of the time I just eat perch. Lightly breaded, yummy. But you always go home with some because you have to get some appetizers (mmmm mushrooms...) and that always comes with a salad. Great place to go... But considering the price tag it has to be for a special occasion. Sorry I don't understand the peeps that go there to drink a beer and eat a burger...

Came here with my hubby and son. Our server was very nice and informative. Hubby ordered the 18 oz NY strip and I ordered ribs & perch to share with my son. Great homemade bread, good salad and soup. The entrees portions are huge and pretty good quality, but the seasoning was a bit lacking..

Bones is up north steak at its best!! If your expecting a 40 day old Wagu Tomahawk steak then go somewhere else. But if you want a 22oz prime rib cooked to perfection, then look no further. I had the prime rib which was amazing. Served with salad and a side and also fresh horseradish. My wife had the prime rib as well (but a smaller one) and snow crab legs. Very good!! We also started out with mushroom caps stuffed with crab meat, delish.

I came here specifically for the crab legs and I was not disappointed. This was one of the only places in the Glen Arbor area I could find that sold crab legs. They were window cut which made it a little easier. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable. I left here in pain I was so full but wished I could keep eating. I was impressed with the wine selection, lots of international choices. They have house-made ranch dressing and croutons that were delicious.

I really, really wanted to love this place. The restaurant is huge, so while the parking lot was packed we didn't wait at all before getting a table. The service from our waitress was really great. The thing I liked best about my meal here was the croutons on my salad. They were obviously homemade: golden brown and crispy with just enough flavor on their own. The ranch dressing and homemade bread (the main ingredient of those homemade croutons) aren't too bad, either. Everything else was just okay. I had the perch which wasn't as fabulous as Yelpers and our server made it out to be. My husband was impressed with the tenderness of the ribs but not the flavor. My sister's prime rib tasted fine but could have been warmer. Not to mention the uncomfortable banquet chairs and the cheap-looking fitted vinyl table coverings! Everything would have been acceptable if the prices were two-thirds as much. But for the prices they charge, everything should have been pretty much perfect. I'm glad we tried it out, though, if only for those magical croutons.

Best deal is the filet and perch. The fish is fresh and the meat is cooked to perfection or just the way you like it. We come here every summer!

Very great laid back atmosphere. The food speaks for itself. We had prime rib and a ribeye steak. Both were cooked to perfection. When in the Traverse City area definitely worth a visit.

Had a wonderful dinner out on the deck while listening to awesome music! Our waitress Jen was very attentive and friendly! The perch and prime rib were delicious! What a great way to end our vacation in TC!

We were a fairly large group, but service was well above par. The portions are generous if not huge. My wife and I split a porterhouse and left very full. Beer menu is good and prices are more than fair. The onion rings were as good as rumored. The decor is somewhat typical of a northern Michigan establishment, and could use an updating.

  • Matthew B.

Hands down best prime rib in Michigan. I am a traveler and we drive to TC at least twice a year and in ten years have never not gone to boons. Seafood, and salads are also very good. I have never been disappointed. Get there early and try to get a seat next to the fireplace. Wine and beer menu is on par. Order the 22oz prime rib and watch everyone's eyes follow it to your table. I share it with the kids.

My wife and I decided to go to Boone's, celebrating our first anniversary. Best idea since we got married. I had the Prime Rib and Perch, my wife the Ribeye. First off, the service was great, and the atmosphere better. Prompt server attention, super fast salad and bread to our table, always checking on us for drinks, great food. The Prime Rib and Perch was masterfully done. I'm not sure I've ever had a better meal, perfectly cooked medium rare. The perch may have been the unsung hero, awesome compliment to the prime rib. My wife's Ribeye was amazing as well, we hardly set our utensils down the food was so great. We will be coming back every year on our anniversary and enjoying this awesome restaurant.

This place stole my heart. I am a fireplace fiend and they happened to seat us right in front of a beautiful natural fireplace. Thank the stars because I was in heaven. The wine list was fine and they carried a few bottles I was familiar with. The salad was tasty -if a place serves homemade ranch, they've won in my book. I absolutely HATE non homemade ranch. By the time my mouthwatering prime rib was served, I was feeling delightful. I can honestly say that I forgot how yummy prime rib is. I'm usually a filet or maybe a strip steak kind of gal, but the prime rib hit the spot. Sooooo delish. It was even good as leftovers..... The hubs indulged in a 18oz strip and it was absolutely monstrous. I was very impressed with the temperature of his steak. Given the size, it's really hard to cook something like that perfectly and they knocked it out of the park. Boone's - you win big time. Can't wait to return. Thank you for an amazing and mouthwatering dinner!!!

The food is o-kay if you don't like flavour and quality. I had the 12 oz prime rib with broccoli. The prime rib was done at the correct doneness ( I asked for medium rare), but it was lacking flavour. Even a little salt and pepper would have sufficed. The broccoli was good up until the last bite, where it tasted like molded buttered broccoli. The waitress was decent, and pleasant. The atmosphere is very casino crowd (if you've been to a casino, you know what that means). Overall--3 stars. The water tasted delicious.

  • Cory P.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Where do I begin.... The setting, we sat outside on the deck which is surrounded by these beautiful tall trees. The lighting was perfect and their was a band playing in corner of the patio. The atmosphere was perfect, not too loud, perfect for families or couples. We were with a large group, 4 adults and 4 kids and everyone was happy. The kids options were great and the prime rib was perfect. I have no complaints and can't wait for a return trip!

We rented a small cottage on Lake Ann. We happened to be here the same time as our gt nieces softball torn. Huge group met here for dinner. I cannot believe how efficient or server was along with the bar service! We ordered the prime rib w/lobster and the prime rib w/shrimp. The presentation of all 30 meals was excellent. The prices were reasonable for the level of service and quality of the meals! I don't thinks you would be disappointed. They also have an outdoor bar and tables, however, I don't think at dusk Michigan can be accused if wimpy Mosquitos!

Came here late at night after a long drive. Servers were friendly, food was delicious, and the atmosphere this place had was just what you want from a vacation in northern Michigan. Will definitely visit again!

Haven't been in 15 years We were told we had to try the wings... Though they could have been a tad less salty they were probably the best wings ever! Our server was wonderful too - way to go ... It's amazing to see a restaurant that has grown that much still run like a well oiled clock:-)

Awesome food, great service, and great atmosphere. I always stick with the prime rib, which has been great every time. My wife had the smothered sirloin this time which she said was delicious. Their drinks are also great. I had a top shelf margarita which was amazing. Great flavor and a nice pour.

I was pretty darn disappointed with my recent trip to Boone's. My family had talked about what a good restaurant Boone's is and I was really excited for a good steak on my vacation. We made a reservation and were seated promptly. The service was good. Our waitress was prompt and quickly took our drink orders. I went for a local wine, Black Star Farms Red House Red and it was delicious. My fiance' and I started with the Escargots, that are in the middle of mushroom caps - YUM. The salads came out quickly and were really tasty, as well. This is where it all fell apart. When I ordered my steak, I asked for medium rare. Another guest at my table asked for medium well. When the waitress brought the steaks out, she mentioned that she thought they may have switched our steaks and gave me the other steak. When I cut into it, it was brown in the middle as if to suggest medium well...not medium rare. I told the waitress that I thought my steak was actually medium well and she said she'd take it back. Being not overly particular, I said it was no problem and that I would keep it. She insisted on taking it back for a new one. She replaced my steak and I was excited to eat and thanked her. When I cut into my steak, it was raw. The outside was a bit charred, but it looked like Ahi Tuna on the inside. I decided to eat a bit of it anyway, and I really think that they forgot to season it, too. It tasted like plain old raw meat. I don't eat steak often but I think that this was the worst steak I've ever had. Others at the table really enjoyed their meals and like I said, the service was good, but I'm officially turned off by the steak experience. Bwa bwa.

If you want a great meal, a place you can take young kids, etc, we love this place. The owner is one of the best people you will ever meet. The staff is wonderful, and the portions are huge. No, this isn't a Ruths Kris, or Houstons, but its no where near the price! Tip for the budget minded diner. We eat here twice a week when we're in the area, obviously cost matters. You can get Perch Sandwich for LESS then the perch dinner, and you actually get more fish, AND bread. Just take the top bun off, and you have the same meal for 4 bucks less. Also, the French Dip, same thing. Its the same prime rib as the diners, and about 1/2 the price. The servings are HUGE, so you won't go hungry. Finally, this is one of the best decks in the area to eat on. We love the Cove in Leland, but for an evening out, this is great. I would argue its better on chilly nights, since there's no Mosquito's, but all around, a wonderful experience. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place. We're local, just 2 miles away, and if we're not eating here, we do carry out at least twice a week.

Visiting from out of town. Decided to come here from Yelp reviews and did not disappoint! Had an excellent fillet, out on the big deck with a glass of wine and listening to a very good acoustic guitar player . Great overall experience not to Mention excellent service! I would highly recommend!

I remember coming here as a kid with my grandparents whenever my family was in town visiting. It was the BIG dinner we always looked forward to when we were there. I remember the prime rib being my grandfather's favorite dish. I always ordered the filet. I also remember the dark green carpet and dark interior. During our most recent visit in July, the decor doesn't appear to have changed inside. But the outdoor patio area is a nice addition. Unlike my order history as a kid, I opted for the NY Strip cooked medium. It was brought to me cooked medium well, bummer. My side of fresh vegetables were a little bland and overcooked. I understand it was a busy night, people were hovering over the tables on the patio waiting for people to finish their food. I thought that was kind of rude. The staff could at least keep those waiting corralled away from the diners so people have some space while finishing their meals. I just get the feeling this place isn't what it used to be and that's disappointing. I could get a better steak, cooked how I asked, anywhere else.

Excellent prime rib and excellent service! Our waitress, Pam was a true sweetheart... If you enjoy quality prime rib and quality service, Boone's is the place to go! Unfortunately, I can't give a solid 5 stars due to the mediocre appetizers and chicken and pork entrees... Their specialty truly is prime rib!

    (4)
  • Matt W.

Good food, friendly staff! I highly recommend the Seasoned Ribeye: medium-rare. If you are going to get a big piece of red meat, do yourself a favor: skip the warm bread with the salads. Pass on the potato, and get the vegetable (i like the steamed broccoli).

We went late on a Sat. Night. Approx. 9pm. About a dozen tables occupied and bar was about full. I can't say enough about Boone's. Our server was a very sweet lady named Colette. She was well educated in the options & very attentive. The food was ( as I remembered....last time I had been there was about 10 yes. ago) incredible. Sadly, I only got pics of the appetizers, but they were noteworthy themselves. Quite literally the biggest and best Onion rings I have ever had, hands down. Delicious breaded deep-fried clams, too. Husband had a steak and crab legs, I had the prime rib and crab legs. As always, meat was cooked to perfection; tender &juicy. Crab legs portions were decent ( who couldn't eat more crab legs?!?) and decadent, especially with the little candle-heated pans of clarified butter they give you. He had a beer, I had a glass of Moscato. Overall lovely experience, wonderful service and 1st rate food. Spent just over 100 for the entire experience, not including tip. I would very much suggest this place to anyone in the area looking for something unique, warm & out-of-the-way from all the bustle of Traverse City.

Great Place, Good Food, Great for Families. Corn is amazing and steaks are great. Prices are good.

  • Linda H.

It reminded me of a supper club atmosphere like in Wisconsin. Honest people serving honestly good food. The décor is simple. The food is simple. The drinks are simple. Everything was simply good, thus the 4 stars. I had the prime rib and lobster tail. I was happily surprised that the lobster tail was quite large as was the prime rib. I think prices are right on the mark. And the service was very well trained and worked like a well oiled machine. It is NOT close to the bay, but worth the 10 mile drive out.

What a great meal! The best Ribeye I have ever had. Large portions, served hot and delicious. Wait staff was friendly and genuine. Before you leave order a piece of cheesecake with the cherries. This is a must visit restaurant if you are in the area.

My wife and I went here with a large group which was accommodated well, service was ok. She got the scallops and I a steak, 25 bucks each. The flavor was lacking in both and the steak (ordered med-rare) was overcooked and tough. A few people got the burger and said it was great, we should have done that and saved our money.

The best end -cut med .rare I have ever had.I have been there 4 times alway make it my !st stop when going to Traverse City. I give Boones 7 stares' Gary Szostak Capac, Michigan

I've been to Boone's many times when working in the Traverse City area, and is a great place for a nice steak. My favorite part of the restaurant is their huge deck. It's an enormous deck that has ample seating for a lot of people, set against a beautiful natural settings of northern Michigan trees. The interior is a little dated, but the food and service has always been solid.

I have not been to Boone's in years. We use to rent a cottage on Long Lake and of course this place was always first on our list to eat at. My wife and two children went to dinner midweek to go back and relive some fond memories. First off this is not fine dining, nor is it relaxing dining. Boone's is the type of place you go when you are really hungry, not to relax and have a few cocktails. One thing about this place is they seem to have very good, experienced severs. Service always seems quick, sometimes too quick like they want to herd you out of the place. Boone's have very good salads, with homemade dressings. We had excellent blue cheese and ranch dressings. The best part is the crunchy croutons which are always buttery and crispy. I had the strip and shrimp. The steak was cooked perfectly but the flavor was just average. The shrimp were not good at all (boiled), kind of flavorless like farmed shrimp rather than wild caught. My wife opted for the 12 oz prime rib which was flavorful and nicely cooked. There was plenty for sharing and lunch the next day. My kids split the crab leg dinner. There was clearly over a pound of crab legs total, more than either of the the two could eat. The crab was well prepared, not over cooked. Overall Boone's is decent domestic fare, nothing special here. If you want your basic meat and potatoes this is probably a good place to go when you are hungry.

This is my third time eating at Boone's and the biggest disappointment in a steak in a very long time. I ordered the 18 oz New York Strip and my wife ordered the Filet Mignon. Both were cooked exactly as ordered (mine med. rare and my wife's well done) but both steaks were not seasoned at all and were bite after bite BLAH!!!! I added salt 3 times and it was still hard to eat. This is probably the first time I haven't finished a steak and the only reason I brought the rest home was to feed it to my dog (she was grateful). What happened tonight Boone's? Did you give the night off to the person who normally seasons the meat? It honestly tasted like you took the meat out of the cooler and threw it on the grill without any prep. It's so sad but the best part of the meal was the dinner salad :-(

  • Dagmar J.

Just about everything we sampled was excellent; but the mushroom beef noodle soup, holy moly, THAT is some seriously good eatin'! It is thick, flavorful, full of generous chunks of beef... it is a meal all on its own. Fabulous!

  • Laura F.

Haven't been here in years so we decided to go. I hate to say it, but the prices have skyrocketed and the flavor of the prime rib is bland. Yes, the portions are huge but bland food is bland food. The place is kept up very well, but at the same time is VERY outdated. Plastic table cloths and banquet chairs are no longer acceptable for the prices we are paying. I guess we will hold off some more years and see if things change. Bummer

  • Jeff C.

Last visit to Boone's was unfortunately regrettable. Ordered the NY Strip medium-it arrived well done, so I sent it back. 2nd one came back pink and cold. Sent that back. It was a busy night, so the kitchen was slammed but there is little room for errors when you are known for great food. Fortunately, local musician Matt Foresman was playing on the deck which helped pass the time. I will likely go back and hope for a better food experience.

Great food and large portions! If you like prime rib this is the place to go. The onion rings are also amazing as well as their specialty drinks from the bar. Large restaurant with lots of seating. Decor is dated but food and service are consistently good. Good for large groups or families.

Great Food! I do highly recommend sharing a meal if possible. They give large portions and you still will not be disappointed sharing it. Also the brownie sunday is the best dessert ever. We drive 3 hours just to eat here.

Where do I even start....Boone's is worth everything! They stand up to their reputation. My family group of 11 made a reservation one week before New Years Eve and we still did not get the time we wanted but that was not a big deal to us. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation and were actually seated before our scheduled reservation time. Boone's requires a minimum of 8 people to make a reservation on New Years Eve when on a regular day they require a 15 person minimum. Our waitress attended us immediately and took our drink orders. She did a very good job of keeping track of everyone because we were on four different checks but we did not sit next to the people we were on the same check. Our drinks came in a timely manner and then we ordered our appetizers. We ordered onion rings (which were the size of Saturn's Ring.), Fried Zucchini (which were awesome and very generous portion) and Mushroom Caps (A must order app!!). The apps took a little bit to come out but the restaurant was packed and it was New Years Eve so it was understandable. After the apps hit the table, our waitress took our entree orders. I can only speak for myself so I had the Full Rack of Spicy BBQ Ribs with the mixed vegetable side. Other people at my table had the perch (recommended by the waitress), chicken finger/wings, salads and prime rib. They all said everything was great. My ribs were awesome and I still talk about how good they were. Certain meals come with soup, salad or coleslaw. I had the vegetable beef which was packed with beef and vegetables, also a generous portion. MY ribs arrived and it was basically a pile of meat and a pile of bones because in the plating process, the meat fell off the bones because they were so tender. When I tried to pick up a bone that still had meat on it, it would immediately become just a bone. They were really tender ad probably some of the best ribs I've ever had. The BBQ sauce was blasting with flavor and added a lot to the plate. It was also very spicy. The side of mixed vegetable was also cooked perfectly and was full of flavor. Overall, Boone's is a place to go in Traverse City. Or else you're missing out. The portions are huge so come hungry and service is awesome. And if you can, get a group of 15 or more to go then make a reservation or else you will be waiting. But it is worth the wait!

Big steaks with not so big taste. Friendly staff and plenty of seating. I like that it is on my side of town, giving me an ok food option right around the corner without the need to go downtown. I love the portions you get from this place, however they don't have the best prepared steaks. Good for people in the Long Lake area, not worth the trip for people on the other side of town.

Barely edible. The service was fine, but the food was horrible, not to mention expensive. I don't get the good reviews. My parents had steaks, I had the prime rib. Steaks were HUGE, but disgusting! Weird fat shape cut, which left them way overcooked outside, and way undercooked inside. I got the Surf and Turf Prime rib and Lobster. The Prime rib was billed as being marinated in a special preparation, but it was not only flavorless, but unevenly cooked, tough, and stringy. The Lobster was billed as "cold water", but must've been from Australia, because it was a striped shell, and the tail was tough and disgusting - what you'd expect from a Florida spiny lobster. None of us finished what we ate, and we couldn't even choke down the leftover steak with eggs the next morning. We gave everything to the dog. I wouldn't be writing this review if the place had been cheap, but it wasn't. Bill was over $200, and that was after we applied a $75 coupon. Admittedly, we had a few bottles of wine, but seriously overpriced. I would never go back, and can't possibly recommend this place.

I have been going to Boone's every Friday for the better part of 14 years. The staff is the best and the owner could not be a better person and he does amazing things for the community. The food is great and the setting is truly northern michigan. Don't miss the deck out back in the summer. There is music and a great setting. It is a great way to spend a summer evening. I can't say enough of this place and its people. The prime rib, white fish, perch and all its seafood are the best in Traverse City.

We have heard people talking about Boon's Long Lake Inn and how the steaks were huge and amazing. We decided to drive out and see what all the hype was about. When we walked in, we were greeted and seated immediately. Our server, Taylor was very friendly and helpful. On the way in, I got a quick glance at a sign on the door that stated the special of the night was a perch dinner for $8.99 so we both decided to try it. We had junk food earlier and were not in the mood for a big steak dinner. The bread basked was good and the butter soft (I hate when you get soft bread and rock hard butter.) We got our dinners and were disappointed. The perch was ok, although really had no flavor at all, even with lemon on it or dipped in the tartar sauce. The fries were way over cooked, and the cole slaw although large in portion, was just so-so. We decided to skip dessert and asked for the bill. We were surprised that our dinners were each $16.99. Come to find out, the perch dinner special was only for people eating outside on the deck. Ok, I missed that part. However, sort of disappointed that they did not even ask us if we wanted to sit inside or outside. It was a beautiful evening out and if we had known there was a deck, we would have chosen to eat there, and ironically would have cut our bill in half at the same time. We probably won't come back again based on this experience.

My wife and I went to Traverse City, MI for vacation and the hotel personnel recommended this place for steaks. Well, we went there twice on our vacation. We only had the prime rib and this is the best prime rib I have ever had! And the portions were huge! We didn't try anything else since we had the PR both times. But the sides were average. And the service was so-so. The ambience was a bit out-dated but i can tell this is a local favorite as this place was way-out in the booneys. But it was well worth the time to drive out there. Bottom-line, if you really love prime rib, I HIGHLY recommend this place.

A group of us visited Boone's during a recent trip to Traverse City. Our server was wonderful and did a great job of taking care of us. The food was well prepared and fresh and the portions can only be described as ginormous. I ordered a small steak, and was happy when I saw the "large" steak one of our party ordered, I doubt he ate a third of it. This place was jammed at 5pm on a Monday night, and I can see why. Our next visit to TC will include Boone's.

Terrible food and terrible service! The only reason I gave 1 star is for the coleslaw and complimentary bread. Our waitress forgot to bring my drink and finally realized it 20 min later when my husbands empty drink had been sitting there for 10 min. Our food was terrible and way too rare. I will never eat here again. Not to mention it is way out of the way if your staying in traverse city. Seriously middle of nowhere.

In town visiting and Boones was highly recommended. Beyond disappointed! French dip meat was fatty. Asked for no vegetables with pasta. Pasta showed up loaded with vegetables. Ordered hot cocoa that was hot water with a sprinkle of chocolate. You would think the waitress would ask why most the food was left on our plates and the hot cocoa wasn't drank, but no. Would never go back!

I've been to Boone's many times, and every time I wonder why I don't just stick to the prime rib. The prime rib is always good, seasoned well, tender and all other wonderful things it should be. I have tried the crab, shrimp, lobster, and ribs...and all have disappointed.

Awesome outside deck. We ate outside and listened to live music. Beautiful evening. Good food. Huge restaurant so can't imagine waiting long for a table. We sat right down and were served promptly. We may eat here again before ending our one week vacation.

Not very good food. I ordered the pork loin wrapped in bacon, it was burnt on the bottom and totally dry, I ate one bite out of it and didn't touch the rest. I explained to the waitress and she said "hmm, that's too bad" in a sympathetic voice. My husband got the ribs and the menu failed to mention they weren't baby back, and they were terrible. The waitress (before leaving) said "wow you guys didn't have a very good experience!" It was a $50 meal that neither of us ate. Not worth the food or the service, I would say skip it.

I've never been to Boone's. I hear it is a nice steakhouse just outside Traverse City. We were supposed to go there for dinner last night, but decided we weren't up to sitting down for a meal in a restaurant. Instead, we sent two members of our party to pick up carry-out from there. From what others in the party said, this is not a place that typically does carry-out. Well, they should. They did such a phenomenal job packing the carryout food that nearly every other restaurant should take lessons from them. For example, on my Chicken Cherry salad, they put the grilled chicken in foil, separate from my salad (lettuce, radicchio, pecans, dried cherries and gorgonzola-which I skipped) so that a) the chicken would stay hot and b) wouldn't wilt my greens! So simple, but such a rare touch - it really is the little things that elevate a restaurant above the pack to be worth patronizing more than once. All of my co-diners were equally happy with their steaks (ranging from prime rib to the 18 oz. NY strip perfectly cooked) to other entrees. My only wish - that the Chicken Cherry Salad had the yummy croutons that the other side salads had.

Horrible burnt filet when I asked for medium rare and paid 32 dollars for such an awful job grilling. Service was disappointing, they can steam and deep fry shrimp but no they can't grill it...hm. Vegetables seemed like frozen veggies, maybe even freezer burnt. Patio is pretty and music was nice, but not nice enough to ever come back again.

We were staying at a cabin not too far from here and after seeing the delectable prime rib pictured in tourism guides, my husband was on board. We went our first night in town and there were lots of locals so we figured we were safe. Uh, no. We got the cheese plate as an appetizer and it was good and HUGE so we took half of it home. It wasn't more than run of the mill cheese and crackers so nothing fancy pants. The dinners took quite a long time to come out and mine was not seasoned and seriously over cooked. The hubby's prime rib, while still good, did NOT resemble the picture they use all over town. It too wasn't seasoned. I think I left half the meal on the plate. The server offered to get me something else and I said I just filled up on the appetizer because I knew how long it took to get it initially and we'd already been there long enough. Servers are nice and the atmosphere is pretty but when the food is a miss, I can't recommend it.

Our favorite place for steak in TC. Excellent combination is their beef and lobster tail dinners. Nice art on the wall from a local art dealer. We have been going there for decades an Once again we headed North to check out the fall colors and cap off the night with a fabulous prime rib and lobster dinner.... Fantastic!

My wife and I went here on the first day of our honeymoon. A few of my coworkers recommended this place and they were so right. The place looks like a lodge inside and it's legendary for it's steaks and seafood. We had the mushroom caps for an appetizer and they were so good you wished there were endless helpings. I had the New York strip with the broiled white fish and it was delicious. The salad greens were some of the best I've ever had full of flavor and tasted like they were grown in the back of the place. The portions are huge here so come in with an appetite. Not one person left this place with out a take out box. Waitstaff is friendly and attentive. I love this place and it's definitely on my list for places to eat every time we go to Traverse City. All in all, if you like seafood and steak this is the place to go. I loved it and will frequent it over and over again . Go you won't be disappointed.

Steakhouse known for their prime rib. The prime rib is good (my wife got that and I got to try it). I had the sirloin with blue cheese topping and it was good, but I thought a bit overdone - I ordered medium rare and it came back probably medium. The atmosphere is loud, but I was there on a Friday night and it was pretty crowded. Salad was salad and the cottage fries it came with where good. Price was about right - not cheap, but not expensive either. They do have a kids menu.

The nice thing I can say about this is place is that we arrived in a group of ten without reservations on a busy Saturday night and were seated almost immediately. The steaks were just okay but were not cooked to order. The server was more than a bit snarky when we sent one back for more fire. Overall, definitely not worth the cost. Heck, even the beer is overpriced here.

A little disappointing. This place was surprisingly crowded and a little less upscale that I had originally imagined. Seating is fairly open -- they're private tables, of course, but the place is laid out a bit like a banquet hall -- and the furniture is clearly designed to be easily moved around and stacked. That's not a big deal for me, of course; what matters is the food. I went with the t-bone (16 oz. for $22.99), which came with a baked potato and a side salad. The salad was nothing to write home about, but I first grew a little worried when they gave me a little bottle of seasoning and some disposable salt and pepper shakers as I waited for my steak. When my main entree finally came out, it was, frankly, a bit of a disappointment. I found the meat quality a little unspectacular, and the flavor a little bland, to boot. Great wait staff, though (confused hostesses notwithstanding).

Kristy was our server and it was an awesome dinner. We were there for my in-laws 46th anniversary. We had 5 of us and it was enough food for 8! The perch was delicious as was my husband's prime rib (rare, of course). I had the Cherry Chicken salad and it was awesome, the chicken was tender and the ingredients were fresh and you wouldn't know that the raspberry vinigrette was fat free. We shared a piece of cheese cake (gratis) that was delicious w/a strawberry sauce on it. Can't wait to go back for another family dinner. Tip: if you order wine, do it by the glass, they fill the glasses in such a way that you get more bang for the buck by the glass...a rarity, I know.

Bad food. Big disappointment. Asked for medium rare steak and got dry well done. Shrimp that accompanied steak was overcooked and dry also. Would not recommend. Over priced!

This place has giant EVERYTHING, and it is all good. We tried the onion rings, which were about as big as the head of my spouse. We also tried stuffed mushroom caps, which were pretty tasty as well, but the onion rings were a little better. I had a filet - which was also gigantic but delicious. I ordered it medium and it came out medium rare, so I did have to send it back - but they got it right the second time. I don't blame them - this thing was a monster! It was wonderful though. My spouse had the beef tenderloin kabobs which seemed to have over a pound of beef. They were terrific also.

The bread was very fresh and warm. After sending my rib-eye back, it returned to me perfectly as ordered (medium-well) and was one of the best I've ever had. The only other reason I can't give that 5th star is that our frosty mugs for beer were dusted with sugar in lieu of salt; however, this was also rectified quickly and politely.

A childhood and family favorite of mine. This place is a must if you are in the Traverse City area. They have a wonderful selection of cuts, all are fresh and incredibly tasty. I would highly recommend the perch. If there is any place to get perch, it is here. Their meals come with a choice of 2 sides. I would suggest the salad - their croutons are to die for (homemade)! in addition to that, the cottage fries are a delight. Expect to pay a little extra here, but it is worth. You can expect a unique northern Michigan dining experience here. Enjoy!

It's been a number of years since I had the pleasure of eating at Boones, but I've been there many a time when I was living in the Traverse area. A place I worked for used to take everyone there for Christmas dinners and it was excellent. Totally recommend the Alaskan King Crab legs. They are huge, notched for easy cracking, and come with a little pan of melted butter in a stand with a candle keeping it warm. Truly delightful. Boones is worth the drive. The atmosphere and food are quality.

Mixed feelings. In our two prior visits, my wife and I had wonderful dining experiences--great food, friendly atmosphere, fantastic service. This last visit, though, was a little disappointing. My Mom's walleye looked great but had absolutely no taste whatsoever. After sending it back, the cooks gave it a taste and agreed. Again, the prime rib looked terrific but the flavor was not there. I can't quite condemn this place, based on my previous trips, so maybe we picked an off night. I should note that the service was exceptional. Our server had no problem with any of the issues we had and was very apologetic even though she wasn't responsible for the meal.

My family has been going to Boone's since I was a little kid. Now, my wife and I continue to go each year when we head north into Michigan for vacation. We love sitting out on the deck listening to live music under the pines. The prime rib is fantastic and has always been cooked exactly as ordered. Definitely a must stop every time we're in the TC area!

My friend and I had an fantastic experience here at Boone's Long Lake Inn. We started with the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, and split the Surf & Turf dish (9 ounce Filet and Perch). The filet was juicy and delicious and the perch was fresh and local! A salad and potato are also served with the entree (they make their own croutons), and the homemade bread is mouthwatering. We also had great service which added to the incredible, high-quality food.

Enormous amounts of food, everything was very good. My husband and I split the prime rib and perch, and a 1/2 serving was more than enough for the two of us. We had a large party, and we were seated immediately and served quickly after that. Overall, I would go back.

When you travel to Traverse City, Boone's Long Lake Inn is hands down a must go restaurant. The steaks & prime rib are enormous and 90% of customers leave with a doggie bag. If your looking for a vegetarian meal... stay away. If you love red meat... head to Boones, you won't be disappointed.

I go to Boone's probably 3 times a year and each time I go I hope I will finally find what they do on their menu that keeps people coming back. I have yet to find it and have had something different each time I go. The chicken is dry and has absolutely no flavor, the rice that it is paired with was completely under cooked and I wondered if it had even met boiling water before it reached my plate. The fried clam appetizer tasted pretty good except for the fact that it was rubbery and chewy and most definitely over cooked. The ingredients to my side salad were disappointing at best. No vibrant colors were found in my lettuce or tomato and I have a feeling it may have been from a bag. Ick. My fiance was pleased with his steak for the most part. His only complaint that they seemed to strive for a large cut of a meat and not quite the best cut of meat. But with all the butter and mushroom sauce slathered on it the quality of meat was hardly noticed, sad to say. On my most recent visit to Boone's on a Sunday evening I was greeted by a very friendly hostess and taken to an agreeable table with my family of 4. We were immediately greeted at our table but our waitress, who I can't remember her name because she never gave it. She also never made eye contact with anyone and acted as if we were bothering her by the fact that we were sat in her section. She quickly jotted down our drink order and rushed away. When she returned with our drinks she couldn't remember who ordered what and then hastily asked us if we had decided on our meal orders. She never gave us the special that day or asked us if we would like an appetizer. All things we were interested in but decided not to order based on her service. We placed our meal orders, a Boone Burger, a Steak and two insanely over priced kids meals later she ran away from the table to put them in. She came back to check on us about 20 minutes later when all of our drinks had been empty for a considerable while with my Fiance's side caesar salad and again seemed annoyed that we dare ask for refills. My Fiance enjoyed his chicken caesar salad and she returned with 3 of the 4 drinks we asked for an a loaf of warm white bread and butter. The bread was tasty, although void of any nutrition and if she hadn't ran away from the table again I would have politely asked for my refill again. A while later our entrees arrived, sans refill of my drink yet again and she set down our food and again ran away from the table. The steak was tolerable but it's recipient was not impressed and said the quality was on par with an outback steak house. My Boone burger was awful. It was undercooked and had a very rubbery, chewy taste that I can only compare to McDonald's hamburgers. I assume their "choice ground beef" must be ordered from the same facility that McDonald's orders theirs from. It was basically a 1/3 McDonald's hamburger. I would have asked my burger to be put back on the grill had the waitress ever returned to ask us how everything was tasting but she never did and about 3/4's through my meal I finally flagged her down to get my refill. As we finished our meal we did the typical cues to our waitress to her know we were ready for our bill, we asked her for to go boxes and said we were ready for our bill, placed our napkins on our plates and sat and waited, and waited, and waited. All the while she kept glancing back at us and mingling with her coworkers while having a soda. After about 10 minutes of that we resolved to put on our coats and stand next to our chairs to see if then she would realize that we were ready to leave. After a few minutes of that she placed down her soda, stopped socializing and finally trudged over with a look of sheer boredom on her face to see if we were ready for our bill. We quickly paid with cash as I was terrified to see what the wait would be to get our credit card back and left the restaurant. I am not sure how I haven't seemed to have a good dining experience at Boone's to date, as so many other patrons seem to not have a problem. I do however usually get normal service and not the insanely poor service I recently received so that is a plus. However for the price of the food and the quality of what you are getting I don't really see the point in making the trip out there when there are so many more amazing places to eat in Traverse City. We needed a reminder of why we don't dine there very frequently and I think we are set for at least the next few years without having to go back.

Since we are making the rounds of the TC area hotel folks turned us onto Boone's as a good option, and I would say overall it fit the bill. Atmosphere wise, its a big lodge like place, bit on the darker side, but very nice overall. I agree with an earlier review it is kind of banquet style, but super comfortable, casual and enjoyable. Also the patio on the back looked great, and while I only enjoyed it for a couple of minutes, it seems like it would be a great place to enjoy a meal on a nice day. First of all if your not comfortable splitting entrees this is the wrong place for you. Portions are plentiful and more than likely if you liked your meal you'll be carrying a good portion of it home. For starters we ordered the Portabello Sticks(? I forget the name) and they were a nice start to the meal, not heavy even though they are "flash fried." My daughter and I split a 10 oz NY Strip which while not perfect (should have ordered Medium Rare instead of Medium) was very good. The soup which came with, Noodle Beef (sounds weird doesn't it) was outstanding although more like a stew then a soup, but still really delicious. One daughters Pasta Primavera was exactly what it was advertised to be, but nothing memorable. Also a Gorgonzola Salad was part of the meal and very tasty as well. One negative of our meal was a Salmon dish which was supposed to be grilled and was not. According to the person who ordered it the meal had no flavor. They chose not to bring it to the attention of the restaurant so we are not sure how they might have corrected the matter. Service was excellent from our server Lori who did a first rate job, checked in with us at the appropriate times, and brought items without being asked (6 stars for her!!). I will say that someone noted about the hovering busboy thing, and I felt a little bit of that, but not in a bad way.... it sure was convenient when I wanted to box the extras of the Steak, Salad, Soup, Coleslaw (also excellent)...... Pricewise its between Moderate and Spendy if you order individual entrees, but if you split, and really you can, it definitely falls in the more reasonable side of Moderate. Overall my wife and I gave it a 7.5 out of 10. Look forward to going back and trying it again another time.

We ate there last night! Wow just as I had remembered, form years ago. I used to work in the TC area 20 years ago and Boones was great then and even better now, however the prices have gone up. My wife had the perch sandwich which came with 6 filets on the bun, and a nice bunch for fries too. I had a 1/2 lb french dip sandwich which was great. Boones is just out of town, but it is worth the drive.
